XXXXXXXXXXXXXXX CHAPTER 1 (PG) XXXXXXXXXXXXXXX 35,000 B.C. NORTH TEXAS -60 DEGREES FERENHEIT The Neanderthal entered the cave, searching for his friends. They had not returned from their hunting trip. He brushed at the ice caked in his hair and stomped his feet, his torch throwing weird shadows on the wall. A soft, scuffling noise caused him to whirl to the left. He was tossed into the air and landed hard on his back. The barely recognizable face of his friend appeared above him as he lay on his back. "Ugaman!" the Neanderthal exclaimed. His friend merely smiled and struck quickly, biting his neck. The Neanderthal howled in pain as he felt his friend suck the life-blood from his body. Then everything went black. Ugamen continued to suck until there was no more, leaving a dried out shell of a man. XXXXXXXXXX MINUTES LATER Ugamen stared in horror at his friend, wiping his mouth with the back of his hand. It came away smeared with blood. "Topoka cam me promo?" he whispered. [What have I become?] Magnar appeared beside him and said, "Mes untula bu cula." [We cannot go back.] "Me noa." [I know.] "Me cam am vamar." [I have to leave.] Magnar frowned but nodded. "Me wona hamu." [I will stay.] XXXXXXXXXX 34,000 B.C. SOUTHERN CANADA 102 DEGREES FERENHEIT Ugamen emerged from his cave and gazed at the stars. His eyes fell on the mother moon and he stared, feeling her pull. He had lived many moons and become another creature from the one he had been 1,000 years ago. He still thought of his friend, Magnar, and wondered what had happened to him. 'Does he still live as I do?' he wondered. What he first thought was a curse, he later came to know as a blessing from the mother moon. He had been horrified by his need for blood until he experienced the complete transformation that came with the first full moon after he reached his destination on the far side of the glacier and came into this place of soothing heat. With the transformation, he had little memory of his deeds, and the horror had slipped away. For his services to the mother moon, she granted him immortality. His mate was an intended victim that he had ended up not killing. Something about the look in her eyes when he had bitten her had seduced him and he had staved off the hunger long enough to pull away. He had killed her husband and children instead and carried her, unconscious, back to his cave. She had remained with him ever since. She had birthed a child once every twenty years since then. They were considered another gift from the mother. They took them out when they reached breeding age and help them find a partner. Then they left to make homes for themselves. Soon, rational thought was leaving him. His mate, Terasu, joined him on the ledge that overlooked the rocky side of the mountain below their cave home. She looked up as well. They held hands and waited for the transformation to come. The mother was coming to use them as her vessels. She must be fed and it was their job to feed her hunger for blood and flesh. Muscles bulged, tendons elongated, and fur sprouted on their bodies. They howled in brief pain and then it was over. Some time later the transformation was complete. They looked at one another, recognizing each other, but reduced to basic visual communication. The hunger was upon them. They grunted at one another and began loping down the steep incline that led to the valley at the base of their mountain. The mother's need was upon them. They would not return until the mother moon was fed. XXXXXXXXXXX IMMORTALITY RANCH BOZEMAN, MT OCTOBER 2050 A.D. Five-year old Carina looked at her mother, Lyndlay, and pointed to the woman on the porch. "How old is Grandma Mulder?" she asked innocently. "She's 86 now, Carina." "Wow, that's really old," she commented with a very serious expression plastered on her face. Lyndlay broke out in laughter, declining to tell her daughter that she herself was 66 years old, despite looking like a teenager of 16 years. "Let's go, she's waiting," Lyndlay admonished, patting the child softly on the butt. Lothian rounded the front of the car and smiled as their youngest daughter took off at a dead run across the long front lawn that led to the porch of the old ranch homestead. He slipped his arm around Lyndlay and kissed her on the temple. They watched as Grandma Mulder scooped up Carina with a strength that belied her age and sat back down in the wooden rocker with the child in her lap. They walked at a sedate pace, watching as Carina kissed her adopted grandmother. Dana Scully looked up and waved at them as they reached the steps. Corina jumped off her lap and exclaimed, "Grandma promised to tell me the story of creation again!" Lothian chuckled, "Is that so? I'm not sure we have time for that today." The little girl frowned. "She promised!" Dana laughed and addressed the little girl. "You're leaving out the part about eating all your dinner first," she scolded gently. The little girl blushed and tossed her long, blonde curls over her shoulder pushed her nose in the air. "If I must," she said with dramatic flair. They all laughed as she giggled and then squealed in delight as her grandfather appeared and picked her up, swinging her around in a circle. "Weeeeeee," she cried. Mulder set the girl down and sank into his own rocker. He rubbed his forehead. "I'm getting too old for this shit," he muttered. Scully suppressed a smile and said, "Watch your language, Mulder." "Ooops," he said sheepishly and looked up at Lindlay and Lothian. "Sorry." "No problem," Lothian answered. He pointed, and the little girl was already half way across the lawn, greeting her cousins. They headed toward the barn to play. Lyndlay said, "Can I help you get dinner on the table?" Dana stood. "No, but you can help me set the table." "You're on," Lyndlay replied. They all entered the ranch house and made their way to the gigantic kitchen. Dana passed out plates and silverware and they set the table. When they were finished, Lyndlay said, "Can you give her the short version?" she asked ruefully. Dana laughed, not having to ask what she was talking about. "I'll try, but it's just not a short story." "Don't I know it," Lyndlay said, with a wink. "I would, however, like to be back home by midnight." "Well," Mulder interrupted. "Since your house is only fifteen minutes away, that gives us," he trailed off, looking at his watch. "Five and half hours," he declared. Lyndlay moaned. Lothian laughed, and Dana said, "You could let her spend the night." "No. I don't want her to get into that habit. We call on you enough as it is." "It's not a problem." "I know. Thanks for the offer." XXXXXXXXXX After dinner, they all convened in the gigantic living room. There were ten children there from Lothian and Lyndlay's pack, sitting in a semi-circle on the floor. They watched as Grandma Mulder put her coffee cup down on the table. They all went silent, waiting for her 'after dinner story' to commence. This was always their favorite time of visiting the main ranch. Nobody told stories like Grandma Mulder. "Ready?" she asked. "YES! YES! NOW!" chorused through the small gaggle of children. She smiled. "Well, it all began a long, long time ago, in a cave, far, far away." XXXXXXXXXX OLD TOWN SECTION ALEXANDRIA, VA OCTOBER, 2003 I looked at Byers and frowned. "I don't know if this is a good idea," I said finally. Scully replied, "Are you sure about her?" Byers nodded and said, "As sure as I am about anybody. Look, Mulder, we don't have a lot of options here. Suzanne can help. She has connections of her own and access to the facilities we will need to do further testing without someone looking over our shoulder. Isn't that the problem with using your resources?" Scully nodded. "He's right, Mulder. I can't use the facilities at the Hoover Building or at Quantico. It's simply too risky, but I have to have a place to work. Frankly, I wouldn't mind the help either." I sighed. "All right, but if something goes wrong, Byers, it's going to be your responsibility to clean it up. Understand?" He nodded. "We can trust her, Mulder. I promise." "That's it, then," I said. "Give me her phone number." Byers hesitated. "Why don't I contact her?" I squinted at him trying to determine if there was something shady going on here. Scully tugged on my sleeve and I looked down at her. She said, "Let him set up a meeting, Mulder." I nodded and turned back to Byers. "Call us when you have it set up." We turned and left the Gunmen's hideout. As we walked to the car, I said, "I don't like it. Why doesn't he want us to contact her?" I knew that Scully could hear the suspicion in my voice, but she just smiled. Scully slid into the passenger seat, chuckling. "Oh, Mulder," she whispered indulgently. "What? Now you're laughing at me? What's so funny?" I asked as I slid behind the wheel and slammed the door. She turned to me with a quirky grin and said, "Mulder, Byers has the hots for Suzanne. That's why he wants to be the one to contact her. He wants to be involved so he can see her again, you big dope." I felt my mouth drop open. Knowing stupefied was not a particularly attractive look for me, I snapped my jaw shut. "Are you sure?" I asked. She laughed now. "Yes, I'm sure. Nothing nefarious, Mulder." "Byers has the hots for Suzanne Modesky?" I asked again. She snorted, amused as hell by my ignorance and disbelief. "Why is that so strange?" she asked finally. I looked at her and said, "Byers? I think it might be an X-File." She busted out laughing again at that. I started the car and pulled out onto the street. We had a long day ahead of us. I wasn't going to dwell on Byers' love life. As long as it didn't interfere with what we needed to do, I didn't really care. XXXXXXXXXX HOOVER BUILDING THIRD FLOOR A.D. SKINNER'S OFFICE LATER THAT DAY Skinner set down the official file and reports on the Louisiana Bayou killings and smiled at us. "The accolades are pouring in, Agents. I've gotten three calls just today. The Director, himself, got two. Everyone down there was extremely impressed with the job you did." "There's something else, isn't there?" I asked. He smiled again. "Yes, Agent Mulder, there is something else. I've spoken with both D.D. Cassidy and Director Mullen. The discovery of the existence of werewolves has turned out to be a boon for the X- Files. They both want to see the X-Files continue and have said they will support it in any way they can, within reason of course. They are singing a much different tune than they have been for the last seven years." "That's good news, Sir," Scully replied. "Yes, it is, Agent Scully." He held up a piece of paper that was sitting next to the file on his blotter. "I have here in my hand an official order for the continuation of the X-Files for a minimum of five more years." "Really?" I asked. He nodded. "It gets better." "How could it get better?" I asked. He sat back in his chair and turned the paper around so he could read from it. "Effective as of January 1, 2004, the X-Files will be allotted a budget of $500,000 annually to be dispersed through A.D. Skinner as immediate supervisor of the division. This budgetary allowance does not include the salaries of the agents working in the division. Provisions are made to increase the head count of the department by four within the next five years. Until further notice, Agent Fox Mulder will be the Special Agent in Charge of the Division, and Special Agent Dana Scully will be the Assistant Special Agent in Charge of the division, and act as SPIC in Agent Mulder's absence." He finished with a flourish and slapped the document down on his desk. He broke into one of the biggest smiles I'd ever seen him display. Scully was gaping at him. "Am I to infer from that order that we will be assigned more agents?" "That's exactly what you are to infer. I was told you could pick two agents as of January 1st of this year and two more over the following four years as you see fit. However, you can wait if you wish and evaluate your caseload first." Scully looked at me and said, "I wouldn't mind the help, Mulder." "You thinking what I'm thinking?" I asked. She nodded. "Where did they send them? Violent Crimes?" Skinner cut in. "Who are you talking about?" I turned to face him again. "Agents Doggett and Reyes. They were a new team that helped us out on a case last summer. Agent Monica Reyes, in particular, was very open minded and had a background in investigating occult crimes." Skinner asked, "And Doggett?" Scully answered, "Don't know much about him but he was an old, died-in-the-wool gumshoe cop-type. He was, in fact, an ex-NYPD cop, clearly more skeptical than his partner, but a solid investigator." I nodded. "We seemed to work well together last summer. I wouldn't mind working with them again if they were interested." Skinner was silent a few minutes and said, "I'll look into it." With that, he stood up and extended his hand over the desk. Scully and I both shook his hand and he said, "Congratulations, Agents." "Thank you, Sir," we said in unison. Scully said, "I happened to have gotten a sample of the werewolves blood. I'd very much be interested in studying it at the Quantico labs. They obviously have much more sophisticated equipment then we have here." Skinner nodded. "I'll make a call. You'll have full access to the facilities down there." Scully beamed. I put my hand on the small of her back and led her out of the office. 'Things were certainly looking up,' I thought. XXXXXXXXXXXXXXX PART 2 (PG-13) XXXXXXXXXXXXXXX WALSHEFORD HOME LOUISIANA BAYOU OCTOBER 2003 Everyone gathered in the antebellum ballroom of the mansion. A large table had been placed along one wall. Behind it sat eighteen members of the Council of Clan Elders, which included me. There used to be twenty. Now, however, Jakes Vynter was dead, and his partner was not included in these deliberations as she was the subject of our discussions. When everyone was either seated or standing quietly, I motioned to a young man near the doors. He opened them and Ridley Tayte and Jeremy Rousseau entered the room. They looked regal and unafraid. They walked hand in hand to the front of the room and sat in the two chairs provided for them. I nodded acknowledgement to them and stood up. "As most of you know, I am Ambrose Weller. As the oldest member of the Council of Elders, excepting Ridley Tayte, I have been voted as spokesperson for the Council." Silence greeted this pronouncement. I looked then to Ridley and Jeremy. "Ridley Tayte," I began. "We have deliberated for three days and discussed the events of the war on the lycanthropes and the deeds that led to that war. We have discussed the events since the battle at the Bower mansion and discussed your possible culpability in those events. We have thoroughly reviewed the evidence that you revealed to us regarding the activities of Jakes Vynter, our late leader. Based on all these things, we have made some determinations." I paused. "Can we have your blood vow that you will abide by the decisions of the Council of Clan Elders?" She nodded and I held out my hand to her. She stood and approached me at the end of the table. At my nod, she sliced her wrist with her fang as I did the same. We put them together and each held the others wrists to our own, her right to my left. She said clearly, "I will abide by the decisions of the Council of Clan Elders, whatever they may be, for the good of the Clan." We dropped our hands and I felt a small jolt from the minute amount of her strong blood that flowed into my veins. I was still and waited for the dizziness to pass. Then I turned to them again as she retook her seat. I cleared my throat. "Jeremy Rousseau," I called to him. "We have deliberated for three days and discussed the events that have transpired since the Call to war. We have reviewed the evidence to determine your culpability in any treason that may have occurred by taking Ridley Tayte in a blood bond. Based on these things, we have made some determinations." I paused again. "Can we have your blood vow that you will abide by the decisions of the Council of Elders?" This time Parys stood and we switched places. Jeremy approached the table. At Parys' nod, he sliced his wrist and said, "I will abide by the decisions of the Council of Clan Elders, whatever they may be, for the good of the Clan." The ritual was repeated and I saw Parys sway slightly. I put my hands on her hips to balance her, knowing she was experiencing the same dizziness I had from Ridley's blood. We all knew the two of them had drained Jakes, the most powerful vampire known to us. Their willingness to share that blood, even a little, was a testament to their integrity. When Jeremy dropped his wrists and returned to his seat, I took my place at the end of the table again. I smiled at them. "Please stand." They did. "Ridley Tayte and Jeremy Rousseau," I began. "Your willingness to give a blood vow that you will abide by the decisions of this Council was your final test." They glanced at each other, waiting, and then turned their attention back to me. "It is with pleasure that I announce our findings. Ridley Tayte, you were found to have no culpability in the Lycanthrope wars, the death of Jakes Vynter, and have not committed treason." Her smile lit up her face and I saw her relief even though she remained standing tall. I focused on Jeremy. "Jeremy Rousseau, you were found to have no culpability in the Lycanthrope wars, the death of Jakes Vynter, and have not committed treason." He grinned as well, and joined his hand with Ridley's again. They knew I wasn't finished. I looked over the whole crowd for several moments to let them know I was speaking to them as well. "Finally, we took an anonymous vote to see if we wanted Ridley Tayte to assume the mantel of Leader of the Louisiana Clan in Jakes Vynter's stead. We also voted as to whether Jeremy Rousseau, as your Partner should assume the role as leader beside you and act as leader in your absence." I paused dramatically. "The votes came in, 16 to 2, in both votes." I hesitated again, and then smiled. "In your favor, Ridley. The Council voted and pronounced you the undisputed leader of the Louisiana Clan. The Council voted and pronounced you, Jeremy, the undisputed Second in Command of the Louisiana Clan. Long live the Clan," I finished. The room erupted in applause. I watched, smiling, as they stood. Jeremy wrapped Ridley in his strong arms and squeezed her tight. I was surprised and touched to see a tear leak down her cheek. Jeremy pulled back and kissed her forehead. The crowd was quieting and they all heard him say, "I love you, Ridley." She gave him a watery smile. "Are you sure you want this, Jeremy? To lead? Because if you don't, I'll walk away," she said clearly. "I love you that much." There were a few gasps and then a hush fell over the crowd. Everyone stared at them, waiting for his answer. No one was ignorant of the fact that Jeremy Rousseau had always been a loner. He rarely visited the mansion, let alone took an interest in politics. It was also known, however, that he was a man of solid integrity and high intelligence. Until now, his honor had never been called into question. He was now cleared by the Council and could still boast a clean record. He swallowed hard and took a deep breath. His palms came up to cup her cheeks and he leaned in close, his eyes gazing into hers. Softly he quoted the bible, "'Whither thou goest, I will go; and where thou lodgest, I will lodge: thy people shall be my people; and thy God my God. Where thou diest, will I die.'" Then he kissed her and she cried. Everyone clapped. We all retired to the dining room to talk and celebrate. Several of our cattle were slaughtered and we all fed. As everyone left the hall, I was the only one that noticed Melryk and Malison frowning. Once seated and eating in the dining room, I scanned the crowd and did not find their faces. Parys tapped me on the shoulder and asked, "What's wrong, Ambrose?" I met her gaze. "I know who the cast the dissenting votes." Her eyes widened and she asked, "Who?" Under my breath, taking care to make sure no one overheard me, I said, "Melryk and Malison. They were not happy and they are not here." She scanned the crowd as I had done and came to the same conclusion. "Should we warn Ridley and Jeremy?" "Not yet. I don't necessarily think they are dangerous. Nonetheless, let's keep an eye on them." "They are upset about the disappearance of their children," she said softly. "I know. Although we both know how willful the twins have always been, I think they blame Ridley for the twins' transgressions." "Do you think Ridley knows where they are?" she asked. I looked into her eyes again. "Yes, I think she does." XXXXXXXXXX IMMORTALITY RANCH BOZEMAN, MT NOVEMBER 2003 Somehow, friends of Agents Mulder and Scully had arranged for the purchase and closing on the ranch property without us. A faxed document with our Power of Attorney given to one, John F. Byers had been all that was needed. I had found my den mates in the hunting cabin in the Bayou as I had suspected. Once reunited, we spent the next three days gathering all our belongings and making travel arrangements to get us from Louisiana to Montana. They were hesitant at first to accept a vampire and a human into our midst, but I finally convinced them. We had picked up the keys at Bozeman Town Hall, a good fifteen miles away. Now our convoy of three minivans and one tractor-trailer rig pulled up the final stretch to what would be our new home. An enormous, old ranch house dominated the scene. We all got out of our vehicles and slowly approached, looking around with undisguised curiosity. My best friend, Adolphus, stepped forward and stopped beside me as I stared up at the enormous three-story structure with the wrap around porch. He said, "Sure beats hiding in a sewer, huh?" I chuckled softly. "For better or worse, Adolph, this is our new home." He swallowed and said, "Thank you, Lothian." "For what?" I asked. "Finding us, bringing us here, giving us another chance at life. We owe our lives to you and we know it. Without you, it was a matter of time before they hunted us down." I smiled. "I don't think they were terribly eager to go hunting for you," I replied. "They'd had quite enough excitement for a while." He chuckled. "Maybe, but we could no longer hide there." "Well, now you don't have to, but the fight may not be over," I warned softly. "I know. At least here, we stand a chance. Let's check this baby out." I went up on the porch and put my key in the door. It opened and the door swung open on well-oiled hinges. We all entered, peering around curiously. Everyone began wandering through the rooms. In no time, we were ascending the stairs and choosing bedrooms. A half hour later, we all gathered in they gigantic foyer of the house. Two sweeping staircases framed the open space and led to a balcony that overlooked the foyer and front door. Extending sideways from it were hallways in both directions. "We packed our essentials in the vans. Let's get them out, make up some beds. We'll worry about unpacking the tractor-trailer tomorrow. If you guys are as tired as I am, that's about all I'm gonna be good for tonight." They all mumbled agreement and filed out the door. An hour later, we were gathering in the living room. We sat on the floor, as there was no furniture yet. It was on the truck. Zoe clung to Bareslay, obviously frightened by the knowledge that she was the only human on this trip. Bareslay held her close with his arm over her shoulder. He leaned down and whispered to her, "Don't worry, we're all well-fed." He startled a laugh out of her and she buried her head in his shoulder. I smirked at him and he smiled. "Just a couple of announcements before we all turn in. Tomorrow we unload and furnish the house. Someone will have to go into town and buy a load of groceries. I've made a list for whoever chooses to go. Day after tomorrow, we all walk the perimeter. There's 500 acres here, and we're marking the property lines, using the maps I've been given. Later we will fence in the entire ranch, and alarm the fences. That's for our own protection. "The day after we finish that, the cattle we've purchased will arrive and I'll need help getting them into holding pens. They'll stay in the pens until we can fence in the ranch. Lyndlay and Bareslay will use them to feed on. We will slaughter one steer or cow a month in case we need it when the hunger comes. Our friends are working on the potion now. "Unfortunately, we don't know how long it will be, or even if they will be successful in duplicating it. In the meantime, we have a lot of work to do around here. We'll meet every night at 7:00 PM for dinner in the dining room and discuss our day and make plans for the next one. So let's get some sleep. We'll talk later." We all rose and made our way to our chosen bedrooms. I was exhausted and I could see that Lyndlay, while not tiring as easily as I did, was also running on reserves. Vampires did have their limits. I stripped her and tucked her in. I used the bathroom and stripped, and then slid quietly into the bed behind her, and spooned up against her. She hummed in contentment and I held her close, one hand on her tummy. She wasn't showing yet, but I knew it was in there. I could smell it. Our child. What would it be? It was ironic that I could be so happy and so scared at all the same time. This was the beginning of a new life for us. I just hoped we never got discovered. I didn't think we would survive another massacre like the one in Baton Rouge. Bareslay had nearly wiped us out single-handedly. I didn't blame him though. Turlus Westow brought that fate upon us all. If Bareslay hadn't gotten to the Pack, the others would have eventually. We'd been grossly outnumbered by nearly two to one. The eight of us that had survived were lucky to have gotten away with our lives. I sighed and tried to relax. I needed to sleep. Tomorrow was a busy day and the first day of the rest of our lives. XXXXXXXXXX DANA SCULLY'S APARTMENT GEORGETOWN, D.C. NOVEMBER 2003 "The lab is all set up," I told Mulder. "When do you start?" he asked. "Tomorrow. We've agreed to meet every week night after work from six to eight." "I'll have to bring you two dinner every night," he replied. I smiled. "That would be nice. You cooking?" I teased. He threw a hand over his chest as if wounded. "Moi? You have your choice of cuisine, my lady. There is Kentucky Fried Chicken, Taco Bell, McDonald's, Burger King, Wendy's, or if you really want to live large, Subway." I laughed. "I'll have to check with Suzanne tomorrow and call you with an order." We stripped and climbed into bed. He snuggled up behind me and murmured, "I love you, Scully." I sighed deeply. I still couldn't get used to him saying that to me so easily. It was like a dream come true. I'd never imagined all this could be mine. I'd worried that a romantic relationship would smother me. Mulder was obsessive about everything that he did, after all. The odd paradox was that now that we were involved, he was actually less possessive and smothering than he had been in our entire relationship. I pondered that tidbit for a long time and figured out that it must be because he no longer lived with the fear that I would find someone else and leave him. That fear had kept him glued to my side for years, calling me in the middle of the night, falling into depressions each time I dared to have a date, not that there had been that many. It had kept him hovering and territorial whenever we were anywhere that men might approach me in a casual setting. It had annoyed the hell out of me. Now that we were intimate, it was like he was a totally different man. Unlike my predictions, he wasn't nearly as possessive or overbearing. I realized that this was because he trusted me. I had told him I was his and his alone, and he believed me. It warmed me in a way that nothing else could. He confessed to minor bouts with jealousy on several occasions when someone was particularly attentive towards me. He'd also said though, that he had been more annoyed than jealous. He was annoyed that the guy wouldn't take a hint and back off. Mulder had no had fear that I might take someone up on his offer. I snuggled further into his chest and sighed with contentment. "I love you too, Mulder." He was silent a while and his breathing slowed. I thought he was asleep when he mumbled softly, "Do you think we'll ever do it, Scully? For real?" I scrunched my brow. "Do what, Mulder?" He kissed the back of my neck lightly. "Make a baby," he clarified. I shivered. I hope so, Mulder." "You know, I was thinking," he began. "Uh oh," I joked. I could feel his lips smile against the back of my neck and he flexed his body bringing as much of himself into contact with me as he could. Fox Mulder was a snuggler, another little tidbit I'd learned quickly. It didn't bother me a bit. "If it doesn't work out, we could always adopt, you know?" "What?" I said, startled. I pushed back against him and he moved onto his back. I rolled over onto my side and propped my head on my hand, my elbow resting on the mattress. "What brought this on?" He smiled gently. "Just thinking." "Hard for a single person to adopt," I said without thinking. He stared at me and I found myself suddenly snared by his eyes. "Then we'd just have to make sure you weren't single, now, wouldn't we?" "Mulder?" He gulped once and asked, "If I asked you, would you say yes?" "Mulder, why now?" I answered his question with a question. "Just answer the question, Scully. If I asked you to marry me, would you say yes?" "Are you proposing?" I asked, still stalling. He looked away from me. "Not yet, but its been on my mind. I need to know if it's something you would even consider doing first, though. I'm very happy with what we have. Don't get me wrong." He paused. "I'd be lying, however, if I said I have everything I've always wanted." "Is there something you need that I'm not giving you?" I asked. "No. That's not it. I'm just saying that there are things that would make me even happier than I am now." "One of those things is marriage?" I queried. He looked at me again. "Yes, one of those things is marriage, Scully," he answered. I opened my mouth and closed it again, not sure how to answer him. I loved him, there was no doubt about that. I was passionately in love with him. I couldn't imagine myself spending my life with anyone but him. So what was the problem? Perhaps it was only that it surprised me. I never thought of Mulder wanting marriage and children. I knew, since we'd gotten together a short while ago, that he was willing to help me try and get pregnant. For some strange reason I'd never thought about marriage, even though it made sense. Being Catholic, that was really strange for me. Then again, I'd never claimed to be a good Catholic. Finally, I said, "I don't know if I can answer that right now." His face fell and I could see that he was hurt. He looked away from me to try and hide it. I curled up closer to him and put my hand on his cheek, drawing his head around to look at me again. "I'm not saying no, Mulder. I guess I'm just surprised. I haven't given it any thought at all, one way or the other. I'm so used to taking things as they come now. Let me think about it." He nodded, still not speaking. I could tell he wasn't happy with my response though. I kissed him gently and pulled back. "I can tell you this." He focused on me again. "I don't want to be with anyone else, Mulder. I love you and I can't see myself spending my life with anyone but you. I want to be together when we're old and gray," I finished. He smiled then and pulled me into his embrace. "I love you more than I thought it was possible to love anyone, Scully. I want to be able to say you're my wife, but I understand if you need time. Just know that it's something I'm willing to do, anytime you might want it." "Thank you, Mulder. Just let me absorb the idea and I'll get back to you." XXXXXXXXXXXXXXX CHAPTER 3 (PG-13) XXXXXXXXXXXXXXX SECRET LAB BASEMENT OF GUNMEN'S LAIR OLD TOWN SECTION ARLINGTON, VA JANUARY 2004 "What are the conventional drugs used in fertility treatments?" Suzanne asked. "It depends on your condition," I answered. If you have Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome, they often proscribe Clomiphene. If that doesn't work, sometimes they will give you Metformin, an insulin- sensitizing drug that can help you respond to Clomiphene." "What about for men?" she queried. "Well, some men have a hormone deficiency in the pituitary gland or the hypthalmus that prevents the testicles from receiving the signal to make sperm. In that case, the same drug, Clomiphene is used in combination with HCG. "What's that?" "Human Menopausal Gonadotropin. The Clomiphene prompts the pitutitary gland to make Luteinizina hormone, a follicle-stimulating hormone, which tells the testicles to produce more testosterone and possibly more sperm. That comes in a pill. However, HCG has to be injected two to three times a week. This prompts the testes to produce testosterone and sperm directly." She looked at the ceiling, thinking about this information. "What are you thinking?" I asked. "Well, I'm wondering what effect those drugs would have on this virus." "We can't inject humans with this virus, that's the problem." "Not the full virus. But if we isolate the nucleus, which I think is the core of the cluster cells, and the original virus, I think we might be able to. We'd need to test it on human cells by itself first and see if it adhered to any part of our blood cells. Think about it. You have branched DNA, Mulder has antibodies to the black oil virus. I'll bring some tomorrow. Then we can compare the organic composition and see if they look at all alike. We've been able to isolate the nucleus of the black oil virus. It looks similar under the microscope, but I can't be sure without a sample to compare it to. I'll be very interested in looking at them side by side." "You really think this virus is the same as the black oil virus?" "No, I think it's a mutation of the black oil virus. The black oil virus isn't turning infected people into werewolves or vampires, although it does turn them into monsters," she added in an ironic tone. "Well, I think that's all we can do for tonight," I admitted. "I'll bring two samples tomorrow, the black oil and the isolated nucleus." I stood and made my way to the door. "I'll see you tomorrow night." She nodded and smiled. I paused. "Suzanne, I can't thank you enough for all the help you're giving us." She smiled. "I'm glad to do it. I actually feel useful again. Besides, I won't pass up the chance to spend some time with John." I grinned. "Is it going well?" She returned my grin and winked. "Super." I laughed and went out the door, closing it softly behind me. Mulder was waiting in the car patiently, reading a book. He insisted on standing guard and staking out the place from outside while we worked. XXXXXXXXXX WALSHEFORD MANSION LOUISIANA BAYOU FEBRUARY 2004 The attack came unexpectedly. Most residents of the mansion were at a party at the Spanish Moon. Two younger vampires, Alicia and Kahn had chosen one another as partners. I looked at Ridley as she finished lacing up her signature leather vest. She smiled at me, "What are you looking at, Jeremy?" "The most beautiful woman in the world," I replied glibly. She shook her head in amusement. "You sweet talker you." I merely grinned. "Do we need anything?" "Just the gifts. I left them in the parlor. They are all wrapped. Why don't you go get them and I'll meet you outside the front door. We're late already." I nodded, smiling over the reason we were late. We'd been too involved in making love to stop for the beginning of a party. I whistled contentedly as I strolled down the hall and skipped down the long sweeping staircase into the foyer. I turned to the right to enter the parlor, seeing the gifts sitting on an end table. One step later, Melryk flew at me from inside the room in a blur. I had only one second to see the murderous intent in his eyes before he body-slammed into me, knocking me backwards. I wouldn't have normally fallen, but he'd caught me off guard. No sooner did I hit the ground, than he pinned my arms to the floor, grasping my wrists so tightly that his nails broke the skin. I tensed but waited as he stared at me. With my new strength gained from Ridley and Jakes, I had no doubt I could best him and no fear of his wrath. I didn't know, however, if he had any idea how strong I was now and I wasn't going to let him know if I didn't have to. Malison appeared above me, holding a vial of blood. My eyes widened, wondering whose blood it was. She frowned fiercely and said, "Where are they?" I glanced at Melryk who was straddling my hips. "Who?" I asked. "MY CHILDREN!" she screamed. I winced as her shriek hurt my ears slightly. "I don't know exactly," I admitted. "Bullshit!" Melryk responded. "You and your bitch helped them get away. You encouraged them to take up with others. They belong with their own kind!" Malison spit at me. "I encouraged them to do nothing," I said. "Now get off of me, Melryk, before I take you off of me." He laughed. "You think you're so tough, don't you? I have a surprise for you, Jeremy. Malison and I are much stronger than we've ever let on." I felt a small dart of fear, but then realized that they still couldn't be stronger than I was. "They left of their own accord," I said. "You should have brought them to us!" Malison shrieked. She was behaving as if she were out of her mind. "What's that?" I asked, pointing my chin toward the vial in her hand. "Lycan blood," she said. Now I got scared. One of the few things that could kill me. Just then, I heard Ridley above me on the balcony. "Jeremy, what's the hold up?" "Ridley, look out!" I shouted. Melryk struck at my neck. I yanked my head to the side, and his fangs bounced off my now hardened skin. He growled and I shoved at him. I easily threw him off me, and leaped to my feet as he staggered. I whipped around and yelled, "Ridley, No!" Too late. She sailed off the balcony head first, her leather car coat flying out behind her and crashed into Malison chest to chest. The vampires hissed and growled as she fell backward. She jammed the vial toward Ridley's face. "Lycan blood!" I shouted. My fear for the baby foremost in my mind. Ridley whipped her head down and to the side just in time. The vial flew through the air and smashed on the marble floor, becoming a nasty red stain that spread slowly. I had no time to help her as Melryk was on me again. We tussled. I didn't want to hurt him. "Melryk! Let's talk about this!" "No more talking. Where are my kids!" he shouted. He swung at me and I easily blocked his blows as he rained them down on me. We circled each other like boxers in the ring. Ridley shouted, "Take him down, Jeremy!" "You FUCKING BITCH!" Malison screamed, her arms swinging at Ridley, her finger nails extended. Ridley easily dodged her and caught her hands, maneuvering them behind her back. She held her wrists with one hand and took a fistful of hair in the other, yanking the woman's head backward. She pushed her forcefully forward. I heard Malison grunt as her body was slammed face first into the wall beside the door. Melryk finally rushed me and I dodged to the side, catching his wrist as he went by and subdued him the same way Ridley had. I marched him up next to Malison and slammed him into the wall, relishing his groan. Ridley hissed with rage in Malison's ear and I saw a flash of fear on her face for the first time. Ridley was incensed. I could tell by the glassy look in her eyes and the high color in her cheeks. "How DAARREE YOU ATTACK JEREMY!" she hissed with rage. "I could kill you where you stand, Malison. I'll put up with a lot of nonsense, but don't EVER ATTACK me or mine!" "You hypocrite! You stole my children and poisoned their minds against us!" Malison screeched. I saw the rage drain out of Ridley. She was pregnant now. Perhaps for the first time, she really grasped just how important a child could be to someone. Intellectually, we all knew it, but to experience first hand had brought all sorts of feelings I'd never known. I imagined it had to be ten times more intense for Ridley. Ridley said, "If I let you go, do I have your word of honor that you will not attack; you will listen to what I have to say?" There was a hesitation and Melryk said, "We'll listen." "I didn't ask you," Ridley said sharply. He winced but said nothing further. Malison took a deep breath, her cheek pressed to the wall. Finally, she said, "Yes, I will listen." "And not attack," Ridley reiterated. "And not attack," Malison said. She slowly released her grip on Malison and then spun her around to face her, taking a large step backwards. To most observers, she would have looked to be standing casually. Only I could detect the subtle stance of readiness. Her feet were on the ground, but all the weight was on the balls of her feet. Her arms hung at her sides, but they canted slightly outwards and in front of her. I knew if she wanted to, she could move so fast, that I would only see a blur, let alone a human or a vampire less powerful. 'She was magnificent,' I thought. Her gaze locked with Malison's. "I can only imagine how upset you are," she began. Malison grimaced. "Upset doesn't even begin to cover it," she hissed. Ridley nodded subtlety. "I gave my word, Malison. I don't break my word, especially to young ones. It can shatter their sense of security if an Elder betrays them. It can lead them to self-destruction in their anger. Do you understand?" Malison swallowed heavily but said nothing. "Where are they?" she asked again, obviously trying to reign in her temper. I still held Melryk against the wall, although I'd loosened my grip so I was no longer causing him pain. I was still on high alert though. Ridley was my leader too, and until she told me to release him, he wasn't going anywhere. "I can't tell you that, Malison." Malison opened her mouth and hissed. As she began to say something, Ridley held up her hand to silence her. She closed her mouth but her eyes shot daggers of hate at Ridley. Ridley replied, "What I can do is contact them myself and encourage them to talk with you and explain what happened." "Why should I believe you would do that?" she asked. Ridley's gaze never wavered, pinning Malison on the spot. She said, "Because I'm giving you my word. Whether you hate me or not, you know I don't break my word." "You broke your own vows!" she hissed. Ridley's face darkened. "No, Malison, I didn't. Jakes and I were never bonded. Jakes had a lover on the side and Jakes was a bloody traitor to this Clan. Don't twist what happened. Whether you like it or not, your beloved leader was a traitor." She lowered her head slightly, but still maintained eye contact. Ridley continued, "Now, I will contact both your children and encourage them strongly to contact you, whether that's by phone, mail or to come here to meet you." Tears began scudding down Malison's cheeks. "Why did they leave?" she whimpered, and then covered her face with her hands. Ridley's face softened. "They knew you wouldn't understand or approve of their choices. They knew you were powerful enough to kill their chosen mates if you so desired. They wouldn't take the chance." "We love them! Why couldn't they trust us?" she wailed. Ridley said softly, "Would you have let Bareslay play out his relationship with the human?" She said nothing. "Would you have let Lyndlay play out her relationship with Lothian?" "Lothian?" she asked. "That's her chosen mate's name, Lothian." "The Lycanthrope that supposedly saved your life?" she asked, a bit of sarcasm creeping back into her voice. "Yes," Ridley said calmly. "You wouldn't have let them carry on their relationships. Yes, they are young and impetuous. Yes, they took ridiculous risks, but they are in love, Malison." "They don't even know what love is!" she hissed. Ridley shook her head sadly. "Yes, Malison, they do. Youth does not make you exempt from knowledge. It certainly doesn't make you immune to love. Are these the smartest choices they could have made? No, certainly not." She paused, and looked at me. Our eyes held for a few seconds and then she returned them to Malison. "I was ready to give up leadership of, not just this family, but the entire Clan for the love of my life. Unfortunately, wisdom, intelligence, and logic have nothing to do with love." Malison deflated. "Do you promise me that they are all right?" she asked finally. Ridley smiled a closed-mouthed smile of sympathy at her. "I promise that they are alive and well. Better yet, I can tell you this. They are in a safe place." "What could be so ... compelling that would make them flee?" she asked, sounding truly confused. Ridley nodded at me and I loosened my grip on Melryk. He turned around slowly, clearly on guard, unsure of what we would do. I knew she couldn't come out and tell them, but if they guessed, that was another matter. "Do you remember the story I told about our conflict with Jakes?" "Yes," Melryk stated. "Do you remember what I said about the incident that provoked Lothian to attack Jakes?" They both looked puzzled and then closed their eyes, flipping back in their memories as we can do if we are so inclined. I knew the moment it dawned on Melryk. His face darkened and then looked stunned. His eyes opened. A mere two seconds later, Malison's eyes opened with a look of horror on her face. Softly she said, "You said, 'He threatened the life of that wolf's pregnant mate, thereby threatening the wolf's child. Not a smart thing to do.'" Ridley nodded sagely. Melryk looked like he was going to be sick. "Oh my God. Are you telling us our baby was pregnant with that stinking wolf's child?" Ridley nodded again. "He raped her?" Malison asked, quiet horror in her voice. There was no nod from Ridley this time. Melryk responded, "No. I won't believe it. She went with him willingly?" Ridley glanced at me. "She and Lothian are in love. Their joining was completely consensual." "Oh God, No!" Melryk groaned. He looked like he was going to fall. I rushed into the parlor, retrieved two chairs and was back in the foyer before his knees buckled, catching his ass as he sat down. I tossed the other one to Ridley who caught it deftly and slid it behind Malison, gently pressing her to sit down. They both looked shell shocked. Melryk said, "I thought Bareslay with a human was bad." Ridley said, "Can I say something?" Malison looked broken as she looked up at Ridley but she nodded wearily. Ridley said, "I know this is hard to believe, but not all Lycanthropes are the same. Just like not all Clan members are the same. They have their own individual personalities, morals and goals in life." "What are you trying to tell us?" Melryk asked. "I'm trying to tell you that Lothian is honorable. He is not sinister. He hated Turlus and the other leaders. He only did what he had to do because they would have killed him otherwise." "Are you saying he didn't take the potion willingly?" Malison said, her voice full of suspicion. Ridley shook her head. "I don't know. I think he wanted what the potion could give him, an escape from his rage. I also know, though, that he was afraid of it. Many of their experiments had failed, leaving them deformed, or half transformed and unable to change back into humans. He was lucky, they used him near the end of their experiments when the potion had been further refined." "What does this potion do exactly?" "It turns their rage into arousal." Melryk gagged slightly in his throat, no doubt imagining his daughter in the clutches of a wolf. I cut in, "It's not as bad as it sounds. Our friends are working with their research. It could be a boon for all of us." "What will this child be?" Malison asked. Ridley shrugged. "That's a mystery. It's one of the reasons Lyndlay fled. She knew that most of the Clan would consider it an abomination and she wasn't willing to give it up. You know how we treasure children." "Yes," Malison replied. "No one knows better than I. I love my children, Ridley, beyond all reason. We shouldn't have accosted you, but we were mad with rage and worry." "I understand, Malison, but you should have come and talked to us, instead of assuming I'd betrayed you. Have I ever betrayed you? Have I ever betrayed anyone in this Clan?" Malison and Melryk looked chagrined but said nothing. I asked, "What do you want to do, Ridley?" They both looked frightened. They knew what I was asking. Attacking us came dangerously close to treason. There would have to be punishment. "I don't know yet," she said honestly. Melryk and Malison exchanged glances. Melryk cleared his throat. "We are truly sorry. It won't happen again. I promise. If you keep your promise, I will keep mine." Ridley nodded. He cleared his throat again. He looked at Malison and she nodded. If I hadn't been looking at her, I might have missed it. He said, "We have something that might be very valuable to you. If we were to give it, would you be willing to overlook our transgression?" Ridley was silent for several long moments. "It depends on what it is and how valuable." "Very valuable," he said. "I won't agree to anything until I know what we're talking about." He licked his lips. "Very well. You know the old stories of our origins, right?" "Yes." "You know the story of Magnar, right?" "Everyone does. It's a legend, but I'm afraid that's all it is." Melryk shook his head slightly. "No, it's not just a legend. It's truth." Ridley's eyebrows raised to her hairline. "And how do you know this?" she asked. He turned and stared into her eyes. "I know where he lays," he stated. Ridley and I both gasped. "That's impossible," she said. Melryk smiled sadly. "No, but it's secret, handed down for generations to two people in each generation so that the location would not be lost." "How can I believe this?" Ridley whispered. He hesitated and then said, "We can show you." XXXXXXXXXX PART 4 (NC-17) XXXXXXXXXX SECRET LAB BASEMENT OF GUNMEN'S LAIR OLD TOWN SECTION ARLINGTON, VA APRIL 2004 We worked tirelessly for days. Finally, all our hard work paid off. I looked up when Suzanne shouted, "Yes! I think I've got it!" I walked over and peered into the microscope. She had isolated the nucleus and it was in a Petri dish next to the one holding the lycan virus. They were identical. "Well, I'll be damned." "I need to compare it to the organic data on the black oil and be sure they really match, but it looks good to me," she added. "Let's get to it," I agreed. "That's from the tissue sample Ridley gave us? From the original ancestor?" "The very same. Even though he's a dried out husk, she managed to get a very small vial of blood from him with a syringe. It was only about ten drops, but it was enough." "Say hallelujah!" I joked. XXXXXXXXXX SECRET LAB BASEMENT OF GUNMEN'S LAIR OLD TOWN SECTION ARLINGTON, VA MAY 2004 We spent a couple of weeks isolating nucleuses from both virus compounds and storing them in hermetically sealed containers. Then the real experiments began. First we injected the mice with the original virus nucleus, which we determined was a protein-like cell and subjected them to constant cold. This produced severe anemia in the mice. Next we injected the mice with the original virus nucleus, and subjected them to constant heat. This caused rapid muscle, tendon, and hair growth. It also produced a voracious appetite. Neither one of us had to test a human to know that we had our answer. The virus was alien and had mutated in two different ways thousands of years ago, and thus produced two different species, neither one human. We had to be careful with our limited resources. Further experiments with more components of the virus produced various results. Finally, we hit upon a significant one. The entire wolf virus, as we called it, produced the metabolic and physical changes in the mice. We removed one element at a time and retested. We discovered that when we removed one protein component, it prevented the transformation. They still had a big appetite, but no physical changes occurred. The mice remained fertile. We conducted all the same tests on the vamp virus, as we dubbed it, and were able to isolate the protein that was causing the anemia. The downside was that it left the mice infertile. After receiving Ridley's tissue and blood sample from their ancestor, we realized there were mutations in the newer nuclei that did not appear in the original. That's when we fell upon the environmental changes that mutated the original virus. By adding and subtracting vitamins and minerals we were able to make the fertility drugs work. So we began experimenting with the drugs and what effects they could have singularly or in combination with both virus. It was long, tedious, and often boring work, but research often is. Neither of us gave up though, and having someone to brainstorm with was refreshing. Not that I didn't brainstorm with Mulder. However, the topic was rarely science. This was a return to my roots and I was actually enjoying myself, never forgetting how deadly serious the work really was to our future. There was still a lot to be done. Somehow we had to find out how to prevent the transformation and not cause infertility. We weren't done yet. XXXXXXXXXXXXX IMMORTALITY RANCH BOZEMAN, MT JUNE 2004 The time had come. I was scared out of my mind. I sat against the headboard and cradled her body with mine. She was panting, exhausted from the last few hours of labor. "Shhh, baby, you're doing great," I cooed to her. She smiled through her exhaustion. "God, Lothian, it hurts. Nothing has ever hurt like this." "I know, well, I don't know, but I can tell." Dana Scully was sitting at the foot of the bed in a chair, decked out in hospital scrubs, latex gloves and a face and hair mask. She seemed calm, cool, and collected, giving no indication of the tension in the room. "Here it comes," Lyndlay warned. Scully straightened and began coaching. The head crowned and Scully gave the order to push as hard as she could. A small head popped out. I could see it in the mirror that was at the foot of the bed on top of the dresser. "One more, Lyndlay! Here comes the shoulder!" Scully exclaimed. Lyndlay pushed for all she was worth, her face frozen in a mask of agony. She made a loud grunting sound that ended in an ear-slitting wail. I could feel my hands shaking and willed them to be still. "Yes!" Scully exclaimed again. She stood up with the baby in her arms. Our denmate, Liza, wearing gloves carefully held the baby as Dana used a bulb syringe to extract the goop from the baby's mouth and nose. It immediately gave out a monstrous wail, sounding much like its mother had a few moments ago. That brought smiles to everyone. Liza gently laid the baby on Lyndlay's stomach, as Scully clamped and severed the cord and then helped us maneuver the blood-covered infant to her breast. It was only then that I saw that it was a boy. "It's a boy!" I hiccupped. Lyndlay smiled, looking exhausted as Scully rubbed her stomach, delivering the afterbirth. Some lydocaine and a few stitches later, Lyndlay was relaxed and on the verge of sleep. Scully cleaned up the baby, dressed him while I helped Lyndlay clean up and get into a new nightgown. Since we knew that breast milk, along with sperm, didn't kill the opposing species, we assumed it was safe to breastfeed the infant. We would try and monitor it closely. The baby was returned and I relaxed back against the headboard, giving thanks to whatever God was up there, that the baby was born and appeared to be healthy. "Is there any way to tell?" she asked Scully. Scully didn't have to ask for clarification. "Not yet. We'll take some blood samples back to the lab and test them. I'll let you know the results as soon as I know." Lyndlay nodded. My sensitive nose could smell the fear emanating from her pores. "He's alive and he's healthy, Lyndlay. We have to be grateful." "I know. I'm just so scared, Lothian." "I know. I love you, Lyndlay." "I love you too, Lothian." We fell asleep cradling our new infant and I couldn't remember being happier. Frankly, I didn't care if the child was a werewolf, vampire, human or a mix thereof. He was ours to have for as long as we could have him. I felt blessed. A month earlier, we'd gotten a call from Ridley asking us to contact Melryk and Malison. I was hesitant to do so. Despite their assurances that they only wanted to know we were safe, I didn't trust them as far as I could throw them. I didn't want to have to look over my shoulder, waiting for her father to appear and try to kill me. For the first time in years, I didn't feel like there was a shadow following me around. I could relax here at the ranch and be myself. It was a very liberating feeling. I wasn't anxious to give that up. Lyndlay and I had discussed it and decided that after the baby was born, we would invite them to the ranch. I hoped that seeing the child would soften their hearts. It didn't stop me from dreading that visit. Bareslay had agreed to wait at least a couple of years to find out if our human friends could do anything with the vaccine. He wanted to make Zoe a vampire. He was afraid of losing her to accident or old age. We convinced him to wait, reminding him that the option was always there, but we should give the humans a chance and find out what happened with the virus and vaccine before making final decisions. I could tell Zoe was relieved. There was no doubt she wanted to spend her life with Bareslay. Eternity was another matter. I wasn't as sure as Bareslay that she wanted the dark gift of vampirism. XXXXXXXXXX THE NEXT DAY Scully had stitched Lyndlay, despite her assurances that she healed quickly. The next morning when Scully examined her, she was flabbergasted to find no wound. She removed the useless stitches and shrugged her shoulders. She then examined the baby, found nothing unusual, took blood samples and left to return to her home and the lab. Although we didn't think we would hurt the child, we'd been warned by Scully not to have sex for the last couple of weeks of Lyndlay's pregnancy. Unwilling to take a chance with our child and knowing how rough we got sometimes, we'd agreed and didn't falter. Now though, she was healed from the birth and we had a green light again. The baby was resting comfortably in the warm bassinet when I entered the bedroom that night. I'd been planning on asking her if she was up to a little hanky panky. I got my answer upon looking at the bed. She was laying there, stark naked, with a bow resting on her stomach. I burst out laughing, and growled as I ripped my clothes off and pounced on the bed, delighted with her giggles. I kissed her tenderly and delighted in the sound of her sigh as she relaxed next to me. XXXXXXXXXX NC-17 PORTION XXXXXXXXXX A couple weeks or even a week was a long time when you are in love. Although our sex was rough when I transformed, it wasn't, or didn't have to be when I was in human form. I was feeling so tender towards her that I took it slow, suckling both her breasts and groaning when I tasted the milk. I had a flash of panic, wondering if her milk would be deadly to me, but nothing seemed to happen. I decided not to push my luck and resorted to pinching and rolling her nipples while my mouth enjoyed the rest of her body. Laying between her spread, slender legs, I cupped her bottom and buried my face between her legs, laving at her and getting intoxicated by the smell of her arousal. She panted, whimpered, and moaned, each sound going directly to my groin and stiffening me further until I was rock hard and throbbing. She had two orgasms before I allowed her to coax me up her body once again. Her legs draped over my hips, and I prodded her foamy entrance. My cock stuck out towards her in an aching salute. "Been so long," I said. She laughed. "It's only been two weeks, Lothian." I grinned. "That's forever to me," I whispered and slid into her in one long, steady stroke. "Ohhh yeah!" she moaned. I began to stroke and it felt so good to be sheathed inside her tight, little box again. I wanted to pleasure her, make tender, sweet love to her all night long. I also wanted to fuck her. The urge was there to tear her open and fuck her with wild abandon, but I held on with steely control and stroked slowly, making sure she was really fully healed. She seemed to be enjoying herself, so I kept doing this until she was writhing and throwing her hips up to impale herself on my cock. I was enormous when I was transformed, but I was no slouch when I was human either. My cock was ten inches long and easily two and a half inches wide. She began to whine and whimper as I ground into her, crushing her clitoris. Before I knew it she was screaming out, "Aaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, yyyyeeeessss!" I felt her walls collapse on my rigid shaft and I began to pump hard and fast, but staying just this side of rough. I didn't need rough. Not after this abstinence. That thought was all it took and a dozen strokes later, I cried out, "Oh, I love you!" I emptied into her in long, drawn out ejaculations that left me sated and limp. I collapsed on top of her, knowing she could take it and sighed with contentment. "I love you so much," I said. XXXXXXXXXX END OF NC-17 PORTION XXXXXXXXXX "We didn't use a condom," she said idly. I jerked my head up. "Oh my God! I'm sorry!" Then I saw her smirk. "It's all right. If it happens, it happens." "You'd have another one?" I asked, surprised by this admission. "I'd have a dozen with you if I could, Lothian." I hugged her tightly and kissed her. "I love you," I muttered, and kissed her again. "Love you too. I need to sleep now. Dawn is coming." "Sleep baby." I'd adjusted my schedule so that I was up all night and slept during the day with her and Bareslay. Zoe had done the same. We'd bought black out shades for the bedrooms and rigged black foam that fit securely into the windowsills as well to prevent any accidents. Werewolves tended to be nocturnal anyway, but we were not affected by the sun. It was one advantage our race had over theirs. XXXXXXXXXX The following weeks were a blur of activity. We found out that our baby seemed to be perfectly human, although he did have branched DNA and other virus components that would make him immune to the black oil. We were delighted. I was still dreading the visit from her parents. The invitation had been made. XXXXXXXXXX SECRET LAB BASEMENT OF GUNMEN'S LAIR OLD TOWN SECTION ARLINGTON, VA "Where are you meeting them?" Suzanne asked. "Los Angeles," I answered. "Why Los Angeles?" she asked. "We decided on neutral territory." "Probably a good idea." I smiled at her and hugged her. "Thank you so much." "We don't know if it will work yet," she commented. "I know, but I'm thanking you for working so hard on it." "I wouldn't have missed it. Good luck." "Thanks." I exited the building and slipped into the car. Mulder looked over at me and smiled. "We good to go?" "We're good to go," I said, unable to keep the excitement out of my voice. "Whew," he said, whistling softly. I grinned. "Let's go. I don't want to miss that flight." "Me either." XXXXXXXXXX HYATT REGENCY LOS ANGELES, CA JULY 2003 I knocked on the door to Room No. 216. I noticed that it was in the middle of the building shaped like an H. The door opened and I was confronted with the imposing figure of Jeremy Rousseau. He hadn't gotten any smaller, I thought. He smiled and stepped aside, letting us in. I looked around, realizing there were no windows. Ah, so that's why they got a room in the middle. Wouldn't be a first choice for most, but it was perfect for them. "Have a seat," he said. His voice seemed to rumble from somewhere deep inside his chest. We sat on the two available chairs next to a small table. This was more than a room. It was like a suite only it didn't have multiple rooms. It was an efficiency unit though, containing a small stove, refrigerator and a sink, complete with dishwasher. "You want a drink?" he asked. "What have you got?" Mulder asked. "We went out and got some Arizona Iced Tea for you," he said. "There's water, and we can make coffee if you want it." We smiled. Mulder said, "I'll have an iced tea. Where's Ridley?" Just then we heard a key in the door. Ridley came in carrying a bag of groceries. I raised an eyebrow at her and she smiled. "Got some goodies for you," she replied. "How are you?" "Good," I replied. "We have what we think is good news." "Oh yeah?" She set the bag on the counter and unloaded cheese, crackers, potato chips and dip, and some apples and plums. "You brought a feast," Mulder quipped. "Only Mulder would think junk food is a feast," I deadpanned. We all laughed and Ridley said, "I did bring some fruit." "Thank you for that," I said, mirth still apparent in my tone. She washed her hands and then she and Jeremy sat on the bed. "Not to be rude, but I'm anxious to get to it." I smiled. "Right down to business, huh?" She nodded sheepishly. "What have you found out?" I opened my briefcase and extracted some papers with notes on our research. "Rather than show this to you, which probably won't make sense to you, I'll just tell you, all right?" "Sure," Ridley and Jeremy said in unison. I went on to explain all the experiments we had done, which ones failed and which ones succeeded, trying to keep things in layman's terms. When I paused, Ridley said, "So infertility still remains the problem." At that point Mulder grinned and said, "She's not done yet." Ridley's eyes widened. "There's more?" I smiled. "You bet. This last round of tests is what we hoped solved the infertility problem. If we combine these two drugs with the vampirism virus, minus the one protein, we think it will work." Ridley was silent and then licked her lips. "What now?" I smiled. "I'm going to be the first human guinea pig. We're going back to Montana when we leave here. Two of Lothian's pack members have agreed to be guinea pigs for the new vaccine." "Full moon is two nights from now," Jeremy reminded us. I nodded. "Exactly. We'll give them the vaccine tomorrow night and the night of the full moon, by injection. If they transform, we know we failed." "And if they don't?" Ridley asked. A grin slowly spread across my face. "Then we go into production and try to make as much of this stuff as we can." "And fertility in vampires?" she asked. I licked my lips. "A little more dicey. You're blood devours nearly anything we put into it, including the drug. However, Ridley's blood sample from your ancestor showed that the virus you carry has mutated due to environment. With that original nuclei we were able to isolate that ability to be triggered by that one protein, the same one that causes anemia. Once we knew what it was before the mutation, we could remove the protein and stop the trigger." "Can that be taken out of our blood?" she asked. "That would be tough, but we can make the vaccine mixed with the drugs, minus the protein and give you injections. Then you have to try and get pregnant and see what happens. I'm sure there's a way to do it, but we'd need volunteers." Jeremy said, "We also have to consider if we want to bring more children into the world with vampirism. If this drug works, every vampire couple who knows about it is going to want to try it." Ridley frowned in concentration. "He's right. We would have a population explosion if this thing works and its common knowledge." "There won't be that much to go around," I replied. She nodded. "I need to think about that. I'm already pregnant. So I'm one of the lucky ones." "Has anyone examined you? I see your starting to show now." She smiled. "Just Jeremy," she said, showing her dimples. Mulder and I laughed. "Would you like to do the honors?" Jeremy asked. I nodded and Jeremy and Mulder left the room so I could do this in private. She wouldn't have cared if Jeremy stayed, but Mulder didn't want to be there and I didn't want him there. Ridley stripped and I marveled at the alabaster perfection of her body. Her body was slender but ripe with her burgeoning pregnancy. She looked big for four or five months and I had her lie back on the bed. I took out a stethoscope, latex gloves, a portable light and a pap smear kit. I did a thorough exam on her pelvic region, took a sample of her vaginal secretions with the pap kit and felt her cervix for any dilation. There was none, which was good. I then held my stethoscope to her stomach and did an external exam. What I heard gave me a momentary surge of jealousy. I backed away and took the earpieces out of my ears. Ridley sat up and said, "You look pale. Is something wrong?" she asked. I could hear the slight tremble in her voice. I had never heard it before. Ridley was the most confident woman, or vampire, I'd ever met. I couldn't imagine anything that could frighten her. I realized then how important this pregnancy was to her. I smiled with reassurance. "No, nothing's wrong. Let me get the guys while you get dressed." "Dana?" she asked, still sounding fearful. "I want Jeremy here first. It's all good news." She smiled, looking relieved and reached for her clothes. I found Mulder and Jeremy out in front of the lobby of the hotel, looking up at the stars and competing with each other to name constellations. I chuckled and told them it was safe to come back in. They followed me in silence and we entered the room. Ridley was dressed and waiting anxiously on the bed. "Well?" she asked as soon as Jeremy sat beside her. He immediately picked up on her apprehension. "Is something wrong?" he asked immediately, sounding like her echo. I smiled. "No, everything's fine. You seem to be in perfect health for this stage of pregnancy." "But?" Ridley prompted. "There's something. I can tell." I smiled. "I thought you looked big for five months." Her eyes were riveted on my face and didn't waver. "So?" she asked. "There are two of them, Ridley." "What?" she and Jeremy said at the same time. I grinned. "Two heartbeats, two babies." "Impossible," Jeremy whispered. "Nope," I said flippantly, enjoying the shock on their faces. "One thing I've learned on the X-Files is that nothing is impossible. I believe that even more since meeting you guys." They both smiled as the reality of it sunk in. "It's unheard of," Jeremy said. "Lyndlay and Bareslay were so well known because of the fact that they were twins. They are the only ones we know of in history that have been born to vampiric parents." "Well, in another four months or so, give or take a few days, they won't hold that distinction anymore." Ridley asked, "Is there any way to determine sex?" "You'd need an ultrasound. I can't do it here." "I can't go to a doctor," she said, looking dejected. "Don't worry. I'll keep an eye on you. If you have any problems, just call me. I can be on a plane within hours." I saw wetness pool in her eyes. "Thank you. This is all so new to me. I guess I'm still a little surprised that two humans want to help us." I smiled and so did Mulder. "We're fairly nice people really," he said in a conversational tone. "Once we knew you weren't going to suck us dry and kill us, we relaxed a bit. We're much more fun when we're relaxed," he joked. We all busted out laughing and it felt good to be able to laugh at ourselves. We said good night and made our way back to our own room. We'd checked into a room in the same hotel, but were leaving early in the morning for the ranch. We had experiments to conduct. Also, we wanted to be there when Melryk and Malison arrived, the evening after the full moon. XXXXXXXXXX PART 5 (NC-17) XXXXXXXXXX HYATT REGENCY LOS ANGELES, CA ROOM 412 We went up the elevator to our room and quickly undressed and showered. We were both tired. I was wired and I knew Mulder was too. Despite our tiredness, we weren't going to sleep right away. I crawled into bed nude and waited for Mulder. He emerged from the bathroom wearing nothing but a towel and I literally felt my mouth water. Jesus, what this man did to me! He waggled his eyebrows when he realized I was staring. I blushed, despite my best efforts not to. With a flick of his wrist the towel cascaded to the floor, revealing him in all his glory. He walked up to the bed, looking for all the world like a giant panther and threw the covers back, exposing my body. The cold air hit me and my nipples rose into tight, aching peaks. I couldn't hold back the gasp. He shot me a feral grin and climbed into the bed. He hovered over me on all fours. "Did you take it?" "Yes, I had Suzanne inject me before we left." "And?" "I tested myself just before we went to see Jeremy and Ridley," I confirmed for him. "And?" he asked, sounding impatient now. "I'm ovulating," I said, my voice barely audible. He panted once, hard. "Oh god." The look of love on his face was almost more than I could bear. He sank down on top of me and I spread my legs to let him slide between them. He kissed me fiercely, obviously aroused by the entire idea. XXXXXXXXXX NC-17 PORTION XXXXXXXXXX I could feel his rigid shaft between my legs and he rubbed it against me, teasing my entrance. I moaned, "Ahhh, Mulder, don't tease." "No? I thought you liked to be teased," he said with a mischievous grin. "Not tonight," I said seriously. He nodded. "You got it," he said, being just as serious. He tested my readiness with his fingers, sucking in air through his teeth. "Ahhhh, I love that I make you so wet," he muttered. Without further preamble, he lowered his hips and sank himself into me until he pressed on my cervix. He began to thrust with long, full, steady strokes and I felt like I was floating. "Oh, so good, so good, so fucking good," I chanted. He grunted in agreement but never lost his rhythm. I felt the flush start at my hairline and wash down over my face and into my chest. His eyes were glowing with lust and he ground out, "Oh fuck, you're magnificent, oh baby, so fucking sexy." I groaned, always loving it when he paid me these compliments. It was a turn on just to know I had turned him on. His hand reached down and pressed my engorged clitoris against our joining. I screamed as an orgasm of epic proportions slammed into me. "Aaaaahhhhh, Mulder! Aaaaaaahhhhhhh, Mulder! Aaaaahhhhh, Mulder! Oh shit! Yes, yes, yes!" He was growling, literally growling, as my muscles clamped down on him. There were advantages to being older. He didn't come. XXXXXXXXXX I'd never seen anything more beautiful than a flushed, lustful Scully on the verge of orgasm. The fact that she was writhing beneath me, impaled by me didn't hurt matters. I bit my lip as she orgasmed, calling my name. That never ceased to push me into high gear. So many years, I'd wanted to hear her scream my name in pleasure, rather than pain or fear. As she came down a bit, I forced her legs wider, withdrew a little and shoved hard. She screamed out as I slammed my cock head into her cervix. If I was going to shoot into her, I wanted to spray right onto her cervix. God, I hoped she got pregnant. Just the thought of it made my dick swell a bit more, plugging her tightly. She was already so snug, it was enough to knock a man senseless. Just thinking about it would make my knees go weak. She was so deliciously hot inside, so achingly tight, her muscles never failing to vibrate on my shaft due to the tension of stretching to the limits. My balls rested against her ass and I ground into her, trying to regain control. I panted, holding still inside her. I leaned down and bit her earlobe gently, scraping my teeth over it and she shivered. "Oh God, you feel so good," she said. I didn't trust myself to talk so I just grunted and withdrew very slowly and carefully until the ridge of my glans tugged on her labia. I moved back and forth an inch or so, teasing her, worrying her inner lips. She began to moan, "Oh fuck, don't tease." I kept going, wanting her to lose it. I lived to make Dana Scully lose it in the bedroom. She whimpered, a sound I'd come to love. "Please!" she cried out through clenched teeth. "Please what?" "Oh Jesus, fuck me!" she shouted. I plunged deep, snapping my hips and driving my cock deep within her. She shrieked and I commenced to thoroughly pound away at her pussy. I lifted her legs to my shoulders and leaned down, effecting maximum penetration. She groaned and I bounced my hips, letting momentum drive me into her again and again. The wet slap of our bodies was music to my ears. We were both sweating and panting. I needed my elbows to support my weight so I panted out, "Touch your breasts, Scully." She didn't hesitate, releasing my biceps and beginning to pinch and roll her own nipples, tighter than I would ever dare. I roared, "Oh Christ, you have the tightest pussy! So good for fucking. Jesus, you were MADE for this, Scully," I ground out. Spurred on by the sounds of her cries and pleas, I thrust into her brutally, letting loose with ferocious grunts. She began to climax and the intense, tight, grasping sensations of her pussy walls was too much for me to handle. I roared and fucked her for all I was worth, feeling my climax slam into me and rocket out my shaft. I exploded with a triumphant cry, "OH YES!" I came so hard I could hardly distinguish between ejaculations. It was almost one long, continuous stream of sperm. "Oh Christ," I muttered and collapsed; releasing her legs and watching them fall to the bed. I kissed her temple and cuddled her close. "I'm sorry, Scully. I don't want to be rough with you all the time. I can't seem to help myself." "It's all right. I get carried away too. I love you, Mulder." "Love you too, baby." XXXXXXXXXX END OF NC-17 PORTION XXXXXXXXXX XXXXXXXXXX IMMORTALITY RANCH BOZEMAN, MT OCTOBER 2004 - FULL MOON Mulder and I arrived at the ranch and I gave the potion to the first three volunteers. They appeared nervous but cooperative and constantly called me Dr. Scully. Despite their fears of previous experiments gone bad and half transformations, none of them transformed. They were delighted, but dreadfully horny and ran to their mates as soon as we determined that they were truly not going to transform. They let us take blood to see if any of the composition changed after they were injected. Couldn't hurt to verify results. We also instructed them to let us know if they experienced any kind of physiological changes or symptoms. We'd been surprised when Ridley and Jeremy showed up the next evening. Apparently, they wanted to be there when Melryk and Malison arrived. 'Anticipating trouble, were we?' I wondered. I checked on little Luther and he was hale and hearty. He did possess some anomalies in his blood but I wasn't sure what they meant yet. XXXXXXXXXX TWO HOURS AFTER SUNSET The doorbell rang. We were all sitting in the gigantic living room of the main house. I stood up, having agreed to answer the door, being the least intimidating figure in the house, except for Zoe, perhaps, who was practically shivering with fear. I opened the door and smiled. "Hello." "Oh hello, Dr. Scully!" Malison greeted me. "We didn't expect you to be here." "We had to do some work with the new potions," I explained, stepping back as they entered the foyer. Melryk asked, "With us or the Lycans?" "This time with the Lycans," I answered calmly. "Were you successful?" he asked. "We think so. Our subjects didn't transform last night after taking it. As far as fertility and other issues, we will have to wait and see. Now we have to find a way to manufacture it for all of them." He swallowed. I wasn't sure how much he wanted to know. Malison was fidgeting, not quite wringing her hands, but close. I knew they were impatient to see their kids. I said, "Your children are in the living room waiting for you." Malison smiled tremulously and bounced on the balls of her feet. It was interesting to see such deadly creatures be nervous or anything but completely self- possessed. I was quickly realizing that they were much like we were emotionally. I wasn't sure if that was a good thing or a bad thing. "Follow me," I instructed, and went past the gigantic staircase and through an arched doorway. Malison actually whimpered when she saw Lyndlay. I could see relief in every line of her face as she crossed toward her and held out her arms. Lyndlay stood and stepped forward, going into her arms. Melryk stopped behind them and watched, his eyes darting around the room. They landed on Bareslay first, Zoe between his legs where they sat on the couch. Then I saw his eyes land on Jeremy and Ridley. His brows raised in question, and Ridley just smiled, not inclined to give him a reason for her presence. Then finally, his eyes landed on Lothian. His nostrils flared and I imagined he could smell him. Lothian was sitting a wingback armchair, with Luther in his arms, bundled in a big, fluffy blanket. The two men's eyes locked. Lothian didn't flinch but continued to meet the older man's stare. Lyndlay and Malison broke apart and Malison's eyes found Lothian. He stood up slowly to his full height of six feet. I was struck again by how handsome he was and how broad his shoulders were, tapering into a lean waist and muscular legs. His curly brown hair was washed and combed carefully. He stepped forward slowly. Even so, Malison backed up a step and her back met Melryk's chest. He smiled, clearly amused at their fear but not wanting to piss them off. A glance at Ridley and the smile slid off his face. No need to be arrogant here. That was not going to win him points. Softly, he said, "Hello. I'm Lothian." He paused. "I won't hurt you," he assured them. They didn't respond, just stood staring. I wondered if in all their long lives, they'd ever been this close to a Lycan they weren't trying to kill. They were openly staring at him and he didn't seem to mind. He took another step. When Malison sucked in her breath, he stopped. "Would you like to see your grandson?" he asked, deliberately keeping his voice soft and low. Malison nodded jerkily and Lyndlay took her arm, pulling her forward. She came reluctantly, and Lothian dropped his arms lower so she could easily see him. Her eyes darted to him fearfully, but then to Lyndlay and she reached out, peeling back the blanket. His fat, little face emerged, eyes open and alert. Little fists shook in the air as he yawned and shuddered. Malison, Lyndlay and Lothian all smiled with amusement. "Oh, he's lovely," Malison gushed. "We named him Luther, Momma," Lyndlay informed her. Lothian asked, "Would you like to hold him?" She looked up and nodded. He bent forward. I could tell she was still frightened of him, or his smell, one or the other, but she held her ground. Lothian merely slid the baby easily into her arms and took a step back. Lothian moved to the side and gestured to the chair. "Go ahead and sit, Malison." She nodded and walked to the chair, sitting down while cooing to the little bundle in her arms. His arm slipped around Lyndlay's waist and I saw Melryk frown, but he didn't say anything. "Melryk, come see," Malison exclaimed. He cleared his throat, darting a glance at Lothian but then going to his wife. He went down on one knee and peered at the baby. "Hello, Luther," he said quietly. Despite himself, I saw the corners of his mouth pulling up. "He looks healthy," he commented. "Very healthy," I informed him. "I've run a bunch of tests. He's got an incredible immune system." He swallowed and looked up at Lyndlay, "Is he?" Lyndlay smiled. "We don't think he's either. So far his blood shows the absence of the protein that causes transformation, and the one that causes the anemia or blood craving in us. He didn't transform last night, which we were watching carefully for, neither has he turned up with any fangs." Melryk stood, looking astonished. "He's human." "A little super human," I interjected. "Like I said, his immune system is incredible." Finally, Bareslay stood up and they turned their attention to him. He was gripping Zoe fairly close around the waist, as though to protect her, or hold her up, I wasn't sure which. He turned and said, "Dad, this is Zoe." He inhaled and said with astonishment, "You haven't turned her." He was clearly surprised. "No," Bareslay said simply. "We're waiting to see what happens with the potions. If we can boost her immune system or her longevity another way, it might not be necessary." She smiled tremulously. Melryk did the first congenial thing I'd seen so far and stuck out his hand. "Hello, young lady. It's nice to finally meet you." She tentatively stuck out her hand and nodded at him. "Hello," she said, barely above a whisper. I could tell Melryk was being very gentle and not squeezing her hand too hard. He smiled at her and she seemed to relax a bit, smiling back. Suddenly she blurted out, "I really love your son." Then she looked embarrassed and turned her face into Bareslay's chest. Her five foot two frame looked small next to Bareslay's six-foot body. I imagined that's what Mulder and I looked like as well. Bareslay was smiling so tenderly at her. He tipped her chin up with two fingers and kissed her nose. "I love you, too," he murmured. She grinned and Melryk smiled, in spite of himself. He cleared his throat. "Well, I'm glad to see the two of you alive and well. I wish you'd come to us instead of running off," he began. "I'm sorry, Dad," Lyndlay said. "I didn't mean to worry you sick and I knew I was going to. However, I didn't need to be genius to figure out that you would try to take me away from Lothian. I couldn't risk that, especially knowing I was pregnant." He nodded. "I don't know what I would have done. You never gave me the chance," he said bitterly. She smiled at him. "Yes, you do. We both know. You would have run off Lothian or tried to kill him and you would have tried to get me to give up the baby," she said with conviction. He stared at her for a long moment and then nodded. "Maybe ... probably." She smiled. "I know it's hard to accept. We grew up with the same stories you did. Those stories blinded us." Lothian said, "We're not all the same, you know? Any more than all vampires are the same." They stared at one another again but there was less tension this time. Melryk said, "I'm afraid for my children. Can you understand that?" Lothian looked at Luther with a look of total devotion and then returned his eyes to Melryk. "Yes, I killed to protect my child," he said softly. "Jakes," Melryk whispered. Lothian nodded. "Your beloved leader found out Lyndlay had been with me. Do you know what he did?" Melryk swallowed but didn't answer. "He didn't just threaten me. That I could have forgiven. He threatened to kill Lyndlay and rip the 'abomination' out of her body." This last was said through clenched teeth. Melryk swallowed hard and looked at Lyndlay. "He really threatened to kill you, Lyndlay?" She nodded. "Yes. He was a maniac. So was his lover." At the mention of his lover, Malison glanced at Ridley who merely raised her eyebrows, glad to have someone else confirm the lover that validated her accusations against Jakes. Melryk nodded. Lothian leaned forward subtly but the move was not lost on Melryk. He stiffened but held his ground. Only a few feet separated the men. Lothian said, "I love your daughter, Melryk. Believe that. I'll never let anything or anyone hurt her as long as there is breath in my body. Despite what you may think about us, we don't 'like' to be killers, any more than you do. We do what we have to in order to survive. But I did kill to protect your daughter and my son." He paused. "And I'd do it again, in a heartbeat." Melryk nodded, a reluctant spark of admiration touching his features. Then he looked at his boots. "See that you do," he said softly. Lothian merely smiled at him, looking a little cocky now. I launched an eyebrow at him at a warning. He nodded at me subtly and winked. Malison stood carefully. She took a deep breath as though gathering courage and walked to Lothian, stopping about a foot from him and looking up at his face. He slipped his arm under Luther and easily scooped the child up to lie across his forearm, braced against his chest. His other arm was still around Lyndlay. She bravely reached out and touched the arm holding the child. Lyndlay was clearly shocked at this show of bravado, or trust, I wasn't sure which. She said, "Take care of my babies, Lothian. As long as you do, I can live with this. If you ever hurt her though, your life won't be worth a nickel." He smiled genuinely at her and nodded. "Count on it," he said. She released his arm and turned to Bareslay. For the first time since she arrived, she approached him and slipped her arms around his neck. He gave her a one- arm hug, not releasing Zoe. She whispered, "I love you too, Bareslay. Please come home. I know your sister won't, but you could come home." He released her and she stepped back, looking up into his face. He glanced at Zoë. "Could I, Mama?" Malison held out her hand and Zoë reached for it. In a move that surprised everyone, she embraced the girl in a gentle hug, patting her between the shoulder blades. "If my son loves you, then I will too. You would be welcome in our home." "Walsheford?" Bareslay asked when she stepped back. "No. We don't plan on staying in Baton Rouge. We'll be returning to New Orleans." "Let me think about it, okay?" he said. She nodded. Melryk stiffened suddenly and I turned toward the archway to find three more of the Lycans of Lothian's pack. "Jesus," Melryk whispered. They smiled and waved. "We're going to go check the fence on the north side of the pasture. Okay, Lothian?" one of them said. He nodded and smiled. "Good idea. Check the gate while you're up there." "Will do," he said, giving a jaunty salute, and they filed out the front door. Melryk relaxed and Lothian grinned at him. "I meant it. We won't hurt you as long as you behave." "Be - behave!" the older vampire sputtered. Lothian chuckled at his indignation and then we all let small noises of amusement escape. He couldn't help but go along. "All right, I get it." He sighed. "Man, I'm hungry," he said suddenly. Lyndlay stepped forward and said, "Come on, dad. We have some cattle in the barn." He nodded, slightly dazed by all that had transpired and docilely followed her out the door. "Got a room for us?" Malison asked. Lothian nodded. "Yes, we knew you'd need to spend the day tomorrow. You're welcome to stay as long as you like." She nodded. "This went well, I think. I don't know what I expected, but I didn't expect you." He smiled. "I wasn't sure what to expect either," he admitted. "I hoped you could accept me and Luther. It means a lot to Lyndlay. She missed you." Pools of wetness swam in Malison's eyes but she didn't cry. "I was so worried. I was frantic." He put a hand on her shoulder, still cradling the baby with the other one. She stiffened slightly but then relaxed. "I want Lyndlay to be happy. I knew she never would be totally happy if she didn't have your approval." He paused. "She doesn't need your approval, but she desires it. It will make her happy. That's what we both want, isn't it?" She looked up and him and nodded. "This isn't easy for us, especially Melryk. His maker was killed by Lycans." Lothian nodded. "I'm sorry for that, but it has nothing to do with me. I said it before, but I'll say it again. I will never hurt her." She smiled at the baby and then up at him. "I believe you now." Melryk returned with rosy cheeks and entered the room, just in time to hear the last exchange. Lothian turned to him and approached. He didn't flinch or stiffen this time. Lothian carefully held out the baby. Melryk actually looked a bit nervous but excited too. He reached out and took Luther, cradling him gently to his chest. He moved the blanket further from his face and the baby reached out to grab his finger. The move clearly startled him but brought a smile to his face. Lothian whispered, "That's your grandpa, Melryk, Luther. Say hello." "Goooooaaaaahhhhhh," the baby burbled. We all ended the night with smiles. XXXXXXXXXX DANA SCULLY'S APARTMENT GEORGETOWN, D.C. Two weeks after our return from Montana, I was crying in the bathroom when Mulder entered. He didn't ask. He knew when he looked down at the tray in my hands. He knelt silently in front of me and took me into his arms. I sobbed on his shoulder. I wasn't pregnant. XXXXXXXXXX SEPTEMBER 2004 Things happened fast after that. We tried again in August and I was almost fearful of trying and failing again in September when Mulder said, "You know what?" "What?" "We've been so focused on you, nobody thought to check me. Maybe the problem is me?" I didn't think so, but he was right. I'd never even done a sperm count test on him. So began a new phase of our attempts to find fertility. Further tests on Mulder revealed that his protein residue and antibodies were decreasing his testosterone levels. Not enough to kill his libido, but enough to reduce his sperm count. I gave him the drugs that stimulate sperm production and increase testosterone. I almost regretted it. He turned into the horny beast of all horny beasts. XXXXXXXXXX NC-17 PORTION XXXXXXXXX "Oh God! SUCK ME, SCULLY! SUCK ME!" I screamed as she engulfed my penis in her mouth and hollowed her cheeks with the force of her suction. I thrust up into her mouth, waiting to hear her gag, but she didn't. I didn't want to hurt her, but I simply couldn't help myself. I hadn't had this much this sex as a teenager or in college. I was a walking hard on, as Scully had started calling me. I walked around constantly with an ache in my groin. It felt heavy. The pressure was always there. The slightest touch from her and I was stone hard and straining against my zipper. I was banging her three times a day. I couldn't get enough. Eventually, of course, she got sore and couldn't take it. So now, she sucked me off about twice a day or I jumped in the shower and jacked off to visions of her pouty lips wrapped around my towering cock. Now that we had sex regularly, my mind was a vast filofax of snapshots to pull from when I had to take care of myself. It wasn't difficult to imagine some of my favorite moments and relive them. I looked down and watched my cock enter her face. She was lying on the bed on her back, with her head hanging over the side, baring her gorgeous swan neck and giving me a straight shot down her throat. She let me do the work and I didn't mind. She was sucking like a vacuum though, her hands braced against my legs over her head. I hunched over, squatting and rammed my cock into her face, feeling it slide past the back of her mouth and into her throat. I wailed feeling the tightness of her throat around the head of my cock. When she sucked hard and made a swallowing motion, I was all done. I screamed, rammed deep, my balls resting on her face and sprayed cum directly down her throat. I gasped, pulling my cock out slowly and staggering. My knees were jelly and I took one step and flopped on the bed. "Jesus, Scully. Are you are all right?" XXXXXXXXXX END NC-17 PORTION XXXXXXXXXX I didn't hear anything so I looked over at her and her shoulders were shaking. I was up in an instant and moving her so she was completely on the bed. "Are you all right?" I looked down again and she was laughing, not crying. I smiled. She burped and we both laughed again. "God, Mulder, you're going kill me." "I'm sorry, Scully. I don't know what to do. I'll jerk off from now on, and you tell me when you want it, otherwise I'll just masturbate." "It's all right, Mulder. I'll tell you if it's too much. I promise. If I can do it, I will. I'll let you know when you have to take care of it yourself. "I'm exhausting myself," I admitted. She chuckled, a low sound in the back of her throat and I felt my cock twitch at the sound. Christ, it took nothing. She glanced at my groin and watched as it twitched and began to stiffen. "Oh no, not again," she said. I smiled. "You have to take care of it this time," she said calmly. I nodded. "I think I can stand it now. I'll try to ignore this one." I leaned forward and kissed her nose. I got up and took a shower. "If I didn't love you so much, I might ask for help with you." "From who?" I asked innocently. She gave me the raised eyebrow. "Mulder, you are pouring out pheromones. Every woman that stands next to you is probably creaming their panties. I've been giving them death glares since this started. If I thought I could get away with it, I'd carry a big stick." I belly laughed, delighted at her territorialism. "You don't need to worry, Scully." "I know, but its getting annoying. Women have always fawned all over you. I kind of got used to it. Now it's unbearable." "You're delusional," I teased, kissing her on the forehead. "No, I'm not. I don't share well with others." "I won't share you either. I need a shower. Be right back. XXXXXXXXXX WALSHEFORD HOME LOUISIANA BAYOU OCTOBER 2004 Scully delivered Ridley's babies. They were both vampires, but blood tests showed traces of the protein residue from the potion ingested by Ridley. This worried them, but neither child transformed on the full moon. I was bystander for all of this, still taking the drugs when Scully's blood tests showed my sperm count dropping. After each injection, I would turn into a cock with a mouth. This month was no different. Her period had not come last week on schedule and we were hopeful but it was too soon to tell so she gave me what we hoped was my last injection last night. She of course, was also taking the potion, minus the proteins that would have changed her irretrievably into a vampire or werewolf if she'd ingested them. She monitored herself closely to make sure she was not becoming anemic or showing any other signs of tragedy. Meanwhile, we began to notice subtle changes in our bodies. Wrinkles were disappearing, and our skin was becoming softer. My muscles were becoming more defined without any extra work on my part, and my strength and stamina were increasing. Good thing hers was too, or I would have killed her with exhaustion from the sex by now. Even old war wounds, scars that had been on our bodies for years, were fading. We had worried about age regression, but there were no other signs of that. Our features didn't change and there were no metabolic changes that indicated younger age. Scully believed that the potions were boosting our immune systems in some ways never before seen. I was on the verge of blue balls when we finally retired to a borrowed room in the mansion. I stripped and stood nude by the bed, waiting for Scully. I didn't say a word. Her wink and smile let me know she knew what the problem was. Not that she needed any more evidence. XXXXXXXXXX NC-17 PORTION XXXXXXXXXXX My cock was so engorged it nearly stood up straight, which for a man my age is incredible. It was an unreal shade of red, and swollen bigger than I could ever remember. I think so much pressure in my cock over the months had subtly lengthened it. I wasn't sure that wasn't my imagination though, so I didn't mention it. I didn't really care. Scully pinched her own nipples and fingered herself while I watched. She licked her lips, staring at my cock. She was exciting herself for me, knowing I wouldn't be able to engage in much foreplay this time around. When she felt she was ready, she climbed on the bed without a word and spread her legs wide, holding out her arms to me. By now my cock was so hard and so engorged, I was dizzy with arousal. My cock was nearly purple. I wasted no time and simply mounted her. I took her in rapid, heavy, tearing thrusts that made her wince each time. I couldn't stop, I couldn't pull back, I couldn't slow down, I couldn't soften the blow. It was as if a demon had a hold on me. Then I came. I screamed in relief as my balls clenched and emptied into her. She took it like a trooper. XXXXXXXXXX END NC-17 PORTION XXXXXXXXXX I sighed as she wrapped her arms and legs around me in a gentle embrace, while I waited for my breathing to slow down. "You okay?" she whispered. "That took the edge off," I replied. "The edge off?" she asked, sounding surprised. I hauled myself up away from her body and sat my ass back on my heels. My cock hadn't wilted at all, although it was no longer red and discolored from so much blood. Nonetheless, it was still hard as a board. "It's getting worse, Scully." She nodded, looking slightly afraid. "Hopefully this is the end, Mulder." I nodded. "Are you sore?" I asked. She grinned. "Not yet. Can you take a little more time this time?" I grinned this time and nodded. I leaned over her, kissing her and exploring her body with my hands. I suckled her pebble-hard nipples and went down on her. She hadn't come this time. It had been too fast. I felt bad about that, but I simply couldn't wait at the time. It had felt like my dick was going blow off. I took my time, exploring her folds with my tongue and sucking gently on her entrance, swallowing her fluids and teasing her clitoris. Two fingers found there way inside and I gently rubbed the front wall of her vagina until I found her G-spot. She thrashed and cried out as I felt her spasm around my fingers. Only then did let myself head for my second release. This was definitely getting worse. One orgasm wasn't even deflating me now. My balls felt heavy with sperm again. I began to enter her and she winced. I stopped. "You are sore," I scolded her. "Just a little." "Scully, you have to tell me," I nearly whined. "It's not bad, really." "No, I'll just go take a shower." "Come on, Mulder, I want to be with you." "The last thing I want to do is hurt you, and I know I have." She frowned but then her expression changed. "I know something we haven't done in a long time." "What's that?" I asked, ready to counter her argument. "Back door," she said simply. I groaned softly at the thought. "You could take that?" "I have some KY in my bag over there." I leapt up off the bed and hurried to her bag. She chuckled at my enthusiasm. I hurried back and turned her over onto her stomach, wedging three pillows under her belly to raise her up. I gently pried apart her taut ass cheeks. I loosened her up with one finger, watching as her little ass swallowed up my finger. Then I added a second finger, and finally three. I was not taking as much time as I normally would, but I was determined that she be ready. She moaned and said, "Go ahead, Mulder." XXXXXXXXXXX NC-17 PORTION XXXXXXXXXXX I smothered my cock in KY jelly and positioned myself behind her and watched her flex her muscles, the small area opening and closing. I touched myself to her hole and felt my cock was going to burst. I pushed, trying to be gentle, and felt myself begin to penetrate. Suddenly the head was in and I felt as her muscles clamp around my cock head and squeeze. I moaned. I slowly rocked in and out, letting myself gain ground with every stroke. Once fully embedded, I stopped, letting her get used to the feeling. I was in heaven. I backed up and watched the ring of her anus become smooth. It was stretched so wide and I rocked with just the head in, letting it tug at her muscle ring. She began to moan and finally hollered, "God, do it, Mulder." I began to pump into her, trying not to go too fast. The urge, once again, to bang her hard was nearly impossible to resist. I sped up and reveled in her symphony of grunts, moans and whimpers, none of which sounded like pain. The grease job was working well, and though I'd split her wide open, my shaft slid in and out easily. I began to thrust with reckless abandon. She seemed to be vibrating and twitching with another spasm with every stroke. I looked huge and I didn't ever want to stop sliding my cock in and out. Then she was coming without warning, screaming into the mattress, the sheets muffling her voice. I felt her muscles clamp onto me and let out a full-throated moan. My gasps were coming fast and harsh, but I was nowhere near ready to come. I moved my hips around, swiveling the head of my cock around in her ass. She roared into the sheets and came again. There was nothing like an anal climax to squeeze you so hard it felt like you'd burst. But this was the second round and I was still hard, still pumping and loving every minute of it. I levered up higher on my knees, letting myself slip out and straddled her ass and squatting over her. I plunged down, loving the feel of her muscle giving way. I buried myself deep and grabbed the headboard above her head. I began to squat hump her like my life depended on it. It went on and on and on. She hollered twice more in climax. Finally, I felt the heaviness in my groin shift, and my balls tightened. The back of my legs tingled and I roared through my second climax of the evening. XXXXXXXXXX END NC-17 PORTION XXXXXXXXXX I removed myself gently and went to get supplies to clean things up. She was asleep when I made it back to the bed. I turned her over gently and cleaned her, kissing her forehead. Then I crawled in and wrapped myself around her. XXXXXXXXXX PART 6 (PG-13) XXXXXXXXXX WALSHEFORD MANSION BATON ROUGE, LA FEBRUARY 2005 Ridley gave birth to twins, a girl and a boy. They were both perfect as vampires go. In the months after the experiment at Immortality Ranch, the New Orleans and Baton Rouge Clans, along with the Lycans at the Immortality Ranch had funded the production of more vaccine, voluntarily giving blood to begin the process. In order to keep producing it, they would have to give blood regularly. The hope was to start stockpiling it, giving blood twice a month, and needing the potion it created only once a month. The twin's blood was a match for Mulder's and mine in that it was immune to the black oil virus. That in combination with the drugs was the final boon. We were able to create a 'drug' that induced the vampires to ovulate. Ridley set about coming up with rules for using the drug. Everyone would have to go through the Council of Elders and petition to have a child. Ridley would have the final say. They didn't want to overrun the world with vampires. Some were allowed to try right away, the oldest and strongest that had never had a child. Those with children were not allowed to use the drug to have another. Still others had to wait. Ridley set up a system of bi-monthly injections that spread out the pregnancies and prevented a population boom of epic proportions. Months later when the first babies began to arrive; we discovered that their blood was a match for the twins, Jared and Jenny. Now there was a bigger source and more of the fertility drug could be made. We were working on making a vaccine for the virus too so that it could be disseminated against the alien invasion should the time come. We still hadn't perfected it to the point where we wanted to sell it to the public yet. XXXXXXXXXX DANA SCULLY'S APARTMENT GEORGETOWN, D.C. MAY 2005 I could hardly sit still waiting for him to get here. I'd had my appointment today and sat gripping the results of my test. Mulder had gone in to the office to hand in our report and meet with Skinner and the other two agents on the X-Files team. Then he was cutting his day short. It had bothered him that he couldn't go with me to get the results. The doctor had called me in two days after my last appointment, insisting that I come in. We'd figured something was wrong. It turned out that something was very right. I heard his key in the lock and jumped up from the kitchen table. I stood in the living room as he dropped his briefcase and came toward me. I hugged him tightly. "Whoa, whoa. What's going on, Scully?" Then he heard the crumpling of the paper in my hand behind my back. He backed me up gently and looked at it. "Was there something wrong? Damn, I should have been gone with you." I smiled and held out the paper, my eyes filling with tears. I suddenly couldn't even speak around the gigantic lump in my throat. Seeing my tears he assumed the worst, and grabbed the paper from my hand, turning it so he could read it. It took a few minutes for it to register. He looked up and whispered, "Positive?" I grinned so hard my cheeks hurt. "Oh my God! We're pregnant?" I nodded vigorously. He whooped and threw the paper in the air. I began to laugh and he scooped me up hugging so tight it almost hurt. I wrapped my legs around his hips and he walked to the couch, sitting down carefully. I straddled his thighs and he put his hand on my stomach. "It finally worked," I choked out. "I'm two months pregnant." "Oh God, Scully. You have no idea how happy this makes me." I launched myself into his arms and we just sat and rocked each other, overcome. It had been such a long struggle and it wasn't over yet. He cleared his throat and pulled my head off his shoulder, cupping my face gently. He stared at me and smiled. "You have to marry me now," he said with conviction. I grinned. "Oh, I do, do I?" "Yes, you do, if I have to drag you kicking and screaming to the altar." He began to laugh, the sound tinged with hysteria. "Yes!" I shouted. He leaned in and kissed me until I couldn't breathe. XXXXXXXXXX IMMORTALITY RANCH BOZEMAN, MT MAY 2005 Lothian read the ad one more time. "Concerned researcher looking for volunteers to help with the study of the history of Lycanthropes and the building of the myth throughout history. If interested in a live-in study group, please call Lothian at 406-922- 4839." He paused. "What do you think? Too subtle? Too obvious?" "What happens if you get real grad students showing up?" I asked. "Lyndlay, I don't know how else to do this. I can't exactly put an ad in the paper that says 'Are you a werewolf? Come live with us!' I mean, how else do I reach them?" "I'm not saying it won't work, you just need a contingency plan in case some humans show up." "Would you be able to hypnotize them into forgetting that they came here?" "I suppose I could wipe out the memory. Give them a post-hypnotic suggestion to leave the ranch and go to the nearest town before they wake up from the trance." "That would work. We'd have someone follow them, make sure they didn't run into trouble." "Someone meaning me, right? If I do the hypnosis, I'm the only one that can bring them out of it before they reach the post-hypnotic trigger spot." He looked up with his brown puppy dog eyes and I laughed. "Yes, go ahead, I'll do it." He smiled so widely I wondered if his face hurt from it. He stood up from the desk, picked me up around the waist and twirled me around in a circle before setting me down and bending me over one arm. His lips found mine and I opened eagerly as he plunged his tongue inside. He broke the kiss finally and said, "I love you so much, it hurts, Lyndlay." I misted up and gave him an Eskimo kiss, rubbing my nose against his. "I love you too." He swallowed harshly and his voice dropped to that low, sexy baritone that made my knees go weak. "Let's have another baby, Lynd." "What?" "You know, make another baby." "You want another one so soon?" He smiled. "I'd keep you barefoot and pregnant constantly if I could." "You want to create a pack of your own." He grinned. "Not a bad idea." I rolled my eyes. "You're impossible." He kissed me again and then whispered as his lips wandered over my jaw, my neck and collarbones. "Please, Lyndlay. Please, please, love you so much. Come on, let's make another baby." I giggled as his five o'clock shadow tickled my neck. "All right. If it means that much to you." "I don't want you to do it if you don't want to, or if you're not ready. Just think about it," he backpedaled. I grinned. "I told you after Luther was born, I wouldn't mind if it happened." "Even this soon?" "Even this soon. I love you, Lothian. I want a family with you." "We have a family now, Lyndlay. I want you to be happy. Don't do it just 'cause I'm a pushy lout." I laughed. "I'm not. Why are you backing up so fast on this all of a sudden?" He sighed. "I just realized how pushy I was being. I don't mean to be. Would it really make you happy?" "Yes." I tugged his hand and he followed me out of the office, down the hall and into the bedroom. I turned to his and pulled his head down to meet mine. "Let's make a baby." He groaned and attacked my mouth like he was starving. XXXXXXXXXX PART 7 XXXXXXXXXX IMMORTALITY RANCH BOZEMAN, MT AUGUST 2005 The ad worked even better than he planned. We placed it in all the major city newspapers around the country. Lycans began showing up every few days, anywhere from 2 to 20 at a time. In a few short months, the ranch was overrun with 200 Lycans. We set them to work building homes, giving each pack of four to ten members, a five-acre plot to build a home on. The farmer next to our land decided to retire and sell his property. Our ranch was booming, cattle sales were up and it was decided to snap up the land. The man was delighted when Lothian didn't even haggle on the price. New flurries of activity were set in motion as they repaired some of the old man's buildings and tore others down. More houses went up. XXXXXXXXXX IMMORTALITY RANCH BOZEMAN, MT 2050 A.D. I watched their rapt faces as Scully continued to pontificate. "So then Grampa Mulder and I got married and had," she said, swallowing her laughter as the kids cut her off. "UNCLE CHARLIE!" Scully nodded sagely. "And two years after that," she continued. "AUNTIE SAMANTHA!" they chorused. I chuckled, never ceasing to be amused, despite how many times I watched her tell the story. "And then?" she questioned. "UNCLE RYAN AND AUNTIE MELISSA at the same time!" She nodded sagely again as though supremely impressed with their memories. "That's right. Then Mrs. Byers and I figured out a way to give the vampires and the werewolves babies together through science. So all the volunteers came right here to the ranch. Then we put vampire babies in werewolf's bellies and werewolf babies in vampire bellies. Those babies were so healthy that they never get sick! Can you believe it? After that, they could have their own babies once they were big enough and they are all healthy as horses! Who are they again?" "THEY'RE US!" they screamed and giggled. "Indeed. Then I published our finding in the AMA Journal to tell the world that ladies could now have big, healthy babies if they wanted, and their cells would never break down and they would live for years longer than usual." "And you became a world-renowned scientist who saved the world from aliens!" they all said in unison. Scully chuckled. "Well, I don't know about world renowned, but it made me a lot of money!" They all giggled. "And now, it's time for bed!" she pronounced. "Aww, no, come on!" they grumbled. "Uh, uh. No protests. You promised if I told the story, you would go to bed without complaint. You're not going to break your promise, are you?" "No, guess not, no way," sounded around the room. "And why is that?" she asked. "Because promises are golden!" they repeated their mantra. "Now, off with you!" XXXXXXXXXX IMMORTALITY RANCH BOZEMAN, MT SCHOOLHOUSE 3000 A.D. I watched Scully at the head of the classroom. She looked up, peering over her glasses. "Okay, class, turn to page 58. We're going to read about the history of the lycanthropes." Fifty-year-old Carina's son, Draper, nudged me as I sat next to him in the rear row. He was ten years old and precocious as his mother had been. Lyndlay and Lothian now had ten kids, and some of them were having kids. It was hard to keep up. He was extremely earnest when he looked at me and whispered, "How old is Grandma Mulder?" I smiled. "She's 137 years old now and I'm 140." He shook his head as though it were unbelievable. "Wow, that's really old." THE END.
